Group Dental Insurance
Group dental insurance has become a popular and very affordable option for employers to offer. Because employers generally contribute 50% or more to the premium, employees are able to access generous dental plans rich in benefits at relatively low rates. Generally, dental plans provide broad coverage for all types of dental services – preventative, basic, major, and orthodontia. Group dental plans are generally on a DHMO or DPPO network – with the DHMO network being more restrictive. According to the National Association of Dental Plans (NADP), 92% of Americans with dental insurance get it through their employer or another group.
Preventative services are generally 100% covered without a deductible and include dental services such as routine oral examinations, bitewing x-rays, routine cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, space maintainers, and oral cancer screenings.
Depending on the plan, basic services are usually covered 80% or 90% and include things like emergency care for pain relief, amalgam fillings, oral surgery, stainless steel crowns, and harmful habit appliances for children.
Depending on the plan major services are usually covered 50% or 60% include things like inlays/onlays, crowns, dentures, denture relines/rebases, denture repair and adjustments, implants, periodontics, and endodontics.
